House Washing

“House Washing” refers to the process of cleaning the exterior surfaces of a home, removing dirt, grime, mold, mildew, algae, and other contaminants from the exterior features such as siding and gutters.

Different cleaning methods like Soft Washing, Pressure Washing, Power Washing as well as different solutions are needed depending on the type of material to be cleaned, degree and duration of contamination, and some other factors.

A combination of water pressure and specialized cleaning solutions, often done with a professional pressure washer to maintain the appearance and protect the integrity of the home’s exterior.

Benefits:

  1. Eliminates mold, algae, dirt, grime, mildew and other potentially harmful contaminants that can cause allergic reactions or other illnesses.
  2. The house will look brighter, cleaner, well-maintained and more attractive
  3. Yearly house washing prevents buildup that can cause deterioration over time and protects the exterior of the house from damage caused by contaminants, increasing its value.
  4. Ensures a clean base for paint or sealant applications

Possible Risks or Considerations:

  1. Too much pressure as well as using a wrong cleaning agent can damage wood, siding, or paint.
  2. High-pressure water may enter windows, doors, or other small openings.

While possible to do it yourself, hiring a professional is often recommended to ensure proper technique and reduce the risk of damage, which often leads to additional unnecessary expenses.

Note:

It is important to understand that standard house washing removes dirt and organic contaminants from the surface. However, if the house has been in a dirty condition for a long time, oxidation of the surfaces may have occurred. In some cases, dirt stains penetrate so deeply into the surface that, even though the house will become clean after washing, such stains may remain visible on the cleaned surfaces. Just like spilled orange juice on a shirt can be washed off, but the pale stain will remain on the fabric.

In such cases, to remove signs of oxidation, rust, oil, or other stains, manual cleaning with the use of brushes and specialized chemicals is required, which is an additional service as well as a dedicated window cleaning and is not included in standard house wash.

Driveway and Sidewalk Cleaning

Driveway and sidewalk cleaning involves the process of removing dirt, grime, oil stains, algae, moss, mildew, and other contaminants from the surfaces of driveways, walkways, and sidewalks. Cleaning these areas helps maintain their appearance, prevent surface degradation, and improve safety by removing slippery spots caused by mold or algae buildup.

Cleaning Methods

  1. Pressure Washing:
    • Common method: High-pressure water is used to blast away dirt and debris.
    • Effective for: Dirt buildup, moss, algae, and mildew.
    • Caution: Pressure should be regulated to avoid damaging softer surfaces like concrete or asphalt.
  2. Soft Washing:
    • Lower pressure: Uses low pressure combined with cleaning agents to remove organic growth like algae, moss, and mildew.
    • Suitable for: More delicate surfaces, especially if you want to avoid potential damage to the material.
  3. Chemical Cleaning:
    • Specialized cleaning solutions may be used for stubborn stains like oil, rust, or grease.
    • For localized spots or delicate areas, manual scrubbing with a stiff brush and cleaning agents can be done.

Note:

Some rare types of stains, due to various reasons, can be removed up to a maximum of 95%, and such stains may remain partially visible on the cleaned surfaces.

(Chemical cleaning is an additional service and is not a part of standard cleaning process)

Roof Washing

Roof washing is the process of removing algae, mold, mildew, lichen, moss, and other contaminants from a roof’s surface. Regular cleaning can extend the lifespan of the roof and enhance the home’s curb appeal.

Common Roof Contaminants:

  • Algae and Moss: These organisms thrive in shaded, damp areas and can cause discoloration and damage to roofing materials.
  • Mold and Mildew: These fungi can deteriorate roofing materials and pose health risks.
  • Lichen: A combination of algae and fungus that can erode roofing materials over time.

Benefits of Roof Washing:

  • Prevents Damage: Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of harmful substances that can degrade roofing materials.
  • Enhances Appearance: A clean roof improves the overall aesthetic of the home.
  • Increases Property Value: Maintaining a clean roof can positively influence property value.

Considerations:

  • Safety: Roof cleaning can be hazardous. It’s advisable to hire professionals with the proper equipment and experience.
  • Frequency: Depending on the climate and roof type, cleaning may be needed every 1-3 years.

Deck, Patio, Fence Cleaning,
Wood Color Restoration

Pressure washing is an effective method for cleaning and restoring the appearance of fences, patios, and decks, as well as rejuvenating the color of wood surfaces.

Cleaning and washing wooden decks and patios are essential for maintaining their appearance and extending their lifespan.

Regularly washing your wooden fence or deck offers several benefits that contribute to its longevity and aesthetic appeal:

  1. Prevents Decay and Rot: Accumulated dirt, mold, and mildew can retain moisture, leading to wood decay. Regular cleaning removes these contaminants, reducing the risk of rot.
  2. Enhances Appearance: Over time, fences can become discolored due to dirt and organic growth. Cleaning restores the wood’s natural color, improving the overall look of your property.
  3. Prepares for Staining or Sealing: Before applying a new coat of stain or sealant, it’s essential to clean the surface. A clean surface ensures better adhesion and more effective protection against the elements.
  4. Increases Longevity: Regular maintenance, including cleaning, can extend the lifespan of your fence and deck by preventing damage from environmental factors.
  5. Incorporating regular cleaning into your maintenance routine can lead to a more durable and visually appealing property, contributing to the overall health and value.

Gutter Cleaning

Gutter cleaning is the process of removing debris, leaves, dirt, twigs, and other materials that accumulate in the gutters and downspouts of a home or building. Gutters are designed to direct rainwater away from the roof and foundation, but when they become clogged, water can overflow, leading to potential damage to the roof, walls, foundation, and landscape.

Why Gutter Cleaning is Important:

  1. Prevent Water Damage:
    • Clogged gutters can prevent rainwater from flowing properly, leading to water spilling over the sides. This water can damage the roof, siding, windows, or foundation of the house.
  2. Avoid Mold and Mildew:
    • Standing water in blocked gutters can promote the growth of mold, mildew, and algae, which can damage the gutters and cause health issues if left untreated.
  3. Protect Landscaping:
    • Water that overflows from clogged gutters can pool around the foundation and affect nearby landscaping, potentially leading to soil erosion or plant damage.
  4. Prevent Pest Infestation:
    • Gutters filled with organic debris like leaves and twigs provide a perfect environment for pests such as mosquitoes, rodents, or insects to nest in.
  5. Extend Gutter Lifespan:
    • Regular cleaning helps maintain the structural integrity of the gutters and prevent costly repairs or replacements. Clogged gutters can become heavy with debris, leading to sagging, detachment, or rust.

Signs You Need Gutter Cleaning:

  • Overflowing Water: If water is overflowing from the gutters during or after rainfall, it’s a sign that the gutters are clogged.
  • Sagging Gutters: Clogged gutters can become weighed down by debris, causing them to sag or pull away from the house.
  • Visible Debris: If you can see a buildup of leaves, twigs, or dirt in the gutters, cleaning is necessary.
  • Water Damage or Stains: Water stains or damage around windows, doors, or the foundation can indicate that the gutters are not functioning properly.

Gutter Cleaning Frequency:

  • Twice a Year: It’s typically recommended to clean gutters at least twice a year — once in the spring and once in the fall. This helps keep them clear of debris after the fall leaves and before the spring rains.
  • More Frequent Cleaning: If your home is surrounded by trees or if you live in an area with heavy rainfall, you may need to clean your gutters more often.

Risks of Not Cleaning Gutters:

  • Water Damage: As mentioned, clogged gutters can lead to water damage to the home’s foundation, roof, and walls.
  • Infestation of Pests: Standing water and debris provide a breeding ground for insects and pests, which can lead to infestations in or around your home.
  • Premature Gutter Damage: Water and debris buildup can lead to the deterioration of the gutters, causing them to rust, sag, or detach from the roofline.

DIY vs. Professional Gutter Cleaning:

  • DIY Cleaning: If you’re comfortable working on a ladder and have the right tools, you can clean the gutters yourself. Be sure to wear safety equipment (gloves, goggles, and non-slip shoes) and take necessary precautions.
  • Professional Service: If you don’t want to climb ladders or don’t feel comfortable doing the work yourself, hiring a professional is a good idea. Professionals have the right equipment and experience to do the job safely and efficiently.
